My pact to myself

Dear Milton,
I pledge to live my life to the fulliest.
I will always keep my head up and reach for the stars.
I will be honest to those who help me along my journey in life.
I will always have a positive outlook on difficult situations.
I promise to give my all in every single situation, the sky's the limit.
I know I will succeed because I have God on my side and I have people in my life to guide me along the way such as my teachers, family, and friends that care.
My plans for achieving my goal is promising that I will finish school, get a degree, and start a family.

A Recommendation

The Pact written by Doctors Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins. My recommendation is for all young men to read this book because, it's a good book that shows the struggle of growing up in a rough neighborhood with no role models, but still that your friends and yourself can be all the role model you need to make difference in your life. This book should be read by male or females who feel they can't accomplish their dreams in life, because this book shows you that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.

My reflection

The Pact was a good novel about three young men making a promise and fulfilling a dream to become doctors. They were three young men that had rough life's and grew up in a rough neighborhood with few good role models. The kids in the neighborhood remind me of kids in my neighborhood they didn't ever see a future for themselves, and I wish we had strong men such as Sam, Rameck, and George to influence others our age when we were growing up. And I think that it's good that three young guys their age came together to make a promise that they would accomplish something with their lives, and be better then the guys in the neighborhood they grew up in.

Chapter 14

George moved back home after graduating from Seton Hall to attend Dental School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The money the boys were promised before school they never received so they had to come up with thousands of dollars on their own. Being back in his old neighborhood was distracting for George. People in the neighborhood offered to help George anyway they could even though they didn't have much. So he felt like he was going to school for his entire neighborhood to keep them proud.

Chapter 13

Sam and Rameck were accepted to AccessMed at Rutgers University, which helped minorty students get into Medical School. They had to leave George behind because they had to transfer for the program their senior year. Sam ended up falling in love while on Livingston campus, but the love didn't last to long, they broke up his second year in medical school. Sam noticed that he had made a mistake breaking up with her but by the time he realized he wanted her back she was four months pregnant by another guy. While Sam and Rameck were at Rutgers they threw many parties all of which George attended accept for on that they did not throw, where Sam and Rameck got into a fight with some other guys. Sam realized his senior year in his undergrad that he couldnt hang out like he used too and he wasn't even sure if he wanted to be a doctor. All of the boys were struggling financially and worked whenver they could to pay for tuition and other fees. But on top of this stress Sam's sister became sick with AIDS which caused much more stress on him. But both Sam and Rameck made it through the program and were accepted into medical school at Robert Wood Johnson.

Chapter 12

In this chapter Rameck thought he was too cool to have a girl break his heart. During college he met Kay and they started dating. When any of the guys had girlfriends they became little sisters to the guys, so that meant they were off limits to date later on. Rameck had a goal of having a real family unlike his broken family he grew up in. But Kay ended up breaking his heart, she had another boyfriend at her school. Rameck and Kay got back together but Rameck could not trust her, she did everything she could to get his trust back but nothing worked so she finally broke up with him. Rameck was so lovesick over Kay that he decided he would not go to medical school and would just teach so that he would have time to be with Kay. But Kay did not want him back so he just began to plan for medical school again.
